John Woodward

ID #639, (1649-1732)

Family: Rebecca Robbins b. s 1646, d. 8 Jan 1695/96

Biography

  • John Woodward was born on 28 Mar 1649, in Watertown, Massachusetts.
  • He married Rebecca Robbins, daughter of Richard Robbins and Mrs Rebecca (Unknown) Robbins, in 1673 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.1
  • John Woodward was a weaver. He lived on the south side of the river, near Newton Upper Falls. The house that he built was still standing in 1854, and at that time was occupied by descendants of the 5th and 6th generations.2
  • He had a daughter Susanna who died 22 sep 1676 (not in Bond.)
  • His wife Rebecca died on 8 Jan 1695/96 in Newton, Massachusetts, leaving him a widower at age 46.3,4
  • John Woodward died on 3 Nov 1732 in Newton, Massachusetts, at age 83.
  • Inventory of his estate was taken. Inventory of his estate £133 9s 7d.
  • ***Research Conclusion: I don't think John Woodward #639 married Sarah Bancroft - so Rebecca Robbins #1087 is the mother of our ancestor, not Sarah Bancroft.4
  • ***Research Conclusion: Another wife: Margaret Lemon, whom he married 17 Jul 1697 - this is another John Woodward.5,6
  • ***Research Conclusion: a source says John married Sarah Goodenow, but I think it's incorrect - confusing John with his son Daniel.7
