Biography

  • Nathaniel Hall was born on 8 Feb 1723/24, in Mansfield, Connecticut.1
  • He was commissioned Lieutenant from the King of England. Later he became Captain and was a military person.2
  • He married Martha Sophia Storrs on Sunday, 7 Nov 1745 in Mansfield, Connecticut.1
  • He served in the French and Indian War in Quebec. He also had command of Fort Groton, now New London, CT. He was on half pay when the Revolutionary War started.2
  • Nathaniel Hall died on 27 Jul 1810 in New Haven, Vermont, at age 86 at his son's house.1,2
  • He was buried at the Evergreen Cemetery in New Haven, Vermont.3

    Nathaniel was the 3rd of 8 children (1st son) born of Theophilus Hall (1685-1747) and his wife Ruth Sargeant (1696-1799). Nathaniel's siblings were: Mary (1721-1726), Ruth (1722-1749), Ann (b. 1726), Mary (1728-1754), Isaac (1730-1757), Tabithia (1734-1788) and Azariah (b. 1737).

    Nathaniel married, November 7, 1745, Martha Storrs (d. 1808) by whom he had 11 children (6 sons and 5 daughters): Nathaniel (1746-1821), Deborah (1748-1844), Ruth (1751-1832), Olive (b. 1753), Martha (1755-1819), Andrew (b. 1758), Azariah (b. 1760), Richard (1762-1843), Aaron (b. 1764), Asahel (1766-1813), and Mary (1769-1840).

    Nathaniel received the commission of Lieutentant from the King of England when he was only 18 years of age, he afterwards became Captain and spent his life in military affairs. He was in the French and Indian War (1755-1763) at Quebec. Later he had command of Fort Groton, now New London, Connecticut. He was on half pay when the Revolutionary War broke out. He died at his son Richard's house in New Haven, Addison County, Vermont.
