Biography:
  • Mark Leavenworth was born in 1711, in Stratford, Connecticut.
  • He graduated from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1737.
  • He married Ruth Peck, daughter of Jeremiah Peck and Rachel Richards, in 1739.
  • Mark Leavenworth was a minister.
  • Mark and Ruth lived in Waterbury, Connecticut.
  • He was ordained in 1740. He succeeded Rev. John Southmayd in church at Waterbury. In 1760 he was the chaplain of the 2nd Conn Regiment, commanded by Colonel Nathan Whitney, and went with them to Canada. He was a man of "profound scholarship and strong conviction, greatly beloved by a wide circle of friends".
  • His wife Ruth died on 8 Aug 1750 in Waterbury, Connecticut, at age 31 leaving him a widower.
  • Mark Leavenworth married Sarah Hill a Aug 1750.
  • Mark Leavenworth died on 20 Aug 1797.

Biography:
  • Curtis Lewis was born on 11 Jul 1800, in Stratford, Connecticut.
  • He married Jane Gardner Collier, daughter of Thomas Green Collier and Chloe Caroline Robinson, on Sunday, 12 Mar 1826 in Greensboro, Georgia.1
  • "My mother's marriage was romantic" (as written in a letter from Chloe Emma to her nehew Edward R Sargent in 1912). Jane was very attractive and had many suitors. Curtis was not in favor with Jane's mother (Chloe) because he was poor. As a dutiful daughter Jane tried to love the man her mother liked. However, Curtis was handsome and determined to win her, which he did and that is why the liscence was safe in his pocket some days before the marriage. It was some time before her mother forgave and forgot, but she ended up liking Curtis very much.2
  • Curtis Lewis was a cotton merchant.3
  • He and Jane Gardner Collier appeared on the 1860 US Federal Census of Griffin, Spalding County, Georgia, enumerated 9 Jun 1860, reporting a personal estate for Jane of $2,000. Their children Mary Jane, Chloe Emma and Caroline Craft were listed as living with them.3
  • Curtis Lewis died on 19 Jun 1882 in Atlanta, Georgia, at age 81.
