  • Isaac Clewley was born on 15 Dec 1729, in Boston, Massachusetts.2,1
  • Father: Joseph Clewley - Mother: Elizabeth Barber.1
  • He was a ship-carpenter.3
  • He married Sarah Burditt, daughter of Thomas Burditt and Sarah Newhall, on Friday, 10 Jan 1755 in Malden, Massachusetts.1,4
  • The ceremony was performed by Rev J Emerson.4
  • 1768 Isaac married Sarah Stimpson and had five more children.1
  • 1 Mar 1770 Isaac signed a grant that within 6 years of the date he would build a hands and clear five acres of land on the Penobscot River. This was for the purpose of ship building.3
  • Isaac was in the Revolutionary War, in Col Brewer's Regiment in Massachusetts.1
  • Isaac Clewley was called Lieutenant.1
  • He died on 4 Nov 1800 at age 70.1
  • He was buried at the Mount Recluse Cemetery in Stockton Springs, Maine.1,5

Biography

  • Isaac Clewley was born on 11 Jul 1755, in Malden, Massachusetts.1,2
  • Isaac Clewley of Wrentham was in Pvt Capt Oliver Pond's Co of minute men which marched on the alarm of 19 Apr 1775 - service for 8 days. He served also for many other times, in various regiments.3
  • He married Abiah Hawes on Thursday, 5 Aug 1784 in Wrentham, Massachusetts.1
  • He seemed to have had various residences - quoting an old newspaper clipping of 1905 in the NEHGS article: 'When Mr Clewley first came to this town [Holden] he build a log house and later a frame house on the lot where George Severance now lives. After living here some years he moved to East Holden and build a frame house about 1/4 mile above the East Holden post office on the Bend road. Living here only a few years, he moved his family to North Brewer and build another frame house on what was then called Eaton's Mill Stream. This house is still standing...' This house is located in North Brewer, a Cape Cod type, modernized, and in 1958 owned by the Houston family.4
  • Isaac Clewley died on 18 Feb 1839 in North Brewer, Maine, at age 83.1
  • He was buried at the North Brewer Cemetery in North Brewer, Maine.1
