  • He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Alexander, Genesee County, New York in the household of his parents Charles Edward Coon and Jennie.3
  • Wilbur Barry Coon graduated from Yates Academy in Lyndonville, New York, in 1888.2
  • In 1895 Wilbur Barry Coon was living in 69 Clinton Place, Rochester, New York.2
  • He married Esther Levis on Wednesday, 17 Apr 1901 in Rochester, New York.2
  • They were married at Esther's sister's house, 200 Tremont St in Rochester NY by Rev Dr R R Converse.2
  • Wilbur moved to 144 South Fitzhugh St, Rochester, New York.2
  • He was In 1891 Wilbur formed a partnership with Herman Meldola and started Meldola & Coon Company, which manufactured shoes. By 1912 hiit had turned into the WB Coon Company. At the time of his death the business was realizing #3.5 million a year, with over 6,000 retail stores selling his shoes.2
  • On 26 Jan 1926 Wilbur, his wife Esther, their two children Wilbur & Esther went on a 67 day vacation cruise on the SS Cynthia all through Europe, the Mediterranean & northern Africa. They returned 10 Apr 1926.2,4
  • Wilbur had taken the trip for health reasons - and he returned home recovered. However soon after he was sick with low blood pressure until his death.2
  • He died on 13 Jul 1926 in Rochester, New York, at age 56.1
  • He was buried at the Mt Hope Municipal Cemetery in Rochester, New York, Section MM of quadrant II.2
There is a massive, beautiful monument for the Coon family in the Mt Hope Municipal Cemetery. It was carved in the Tiffany Studios in 1926, when Wilbur died, and transported by special rainroad car to Rochester. It is made of white granite which is grey in color with black specks. The granite is from the Rock of Ages Quary in Bethel Vermont.2

  • Upon their return to Rochester they decided to build their dream house modeled after the French country houses. Even though the building took place during the depression they had enough money to pursue their dream. The house was over 5,000 sq feet, had a swimming pool, a greenhouse, and many special features.1
  • Wilbur Levis Coon was buried at the Mt Hope Municipal Cemetery in Rochester, New York.1
  • He died on 30 Dec 1965 in Fairport, New York, at age 59.1
  • The cause of his death was pneumonia.1
