    DEATH CLAIMS WELL-KNOWN RETIRED RAILROADER AT 91

    Louis N. Oakley, 91, well-known retired Utah railroader, died today at 12:45 a.m. in Utah Valley Hospital of pneumonia.

    A veteran railroad man, he had over a half-century of service with the Union Pacific and Dever and Rio Grande lines prior to his retirement in 1945. He served as agent at Lehi, Springville, Manti, Castle Gate, Cedar City and Provo.

    Mr. Oakley pioneered some of the western railroads being associated with the establishment of the Sanpete Line in the 1890's and working with the company that built 50 miles of railraod through the Feather River Canyon.

    He opened the first office in Provo for the American Railway Express in 1909.

    He was born in Springville, June 27, 1871, a son of James and Ciscelia Lane Oakley. He attended the old Hungerford Academy there.

    He was a member of the LDS Church, Provo Sixth Ward, and active in the High Priests Quorum. He resided at 189 S. 5th W. in Provo for the past 42 years.

    He married Hannah Sunderland of Lehi, June 27, 1892. She died in 1894. One daughter survives this union, Mrs. Richard (Dale) Bandley, Provo.

    He married Rosalind Atwood in Manti Dec 5, 1898. The marriage later was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Mrs. Oakley died in 1952.

    Surviving are one son and four daughters, Bert T. Oakley, New York City; Mrs. Bandley, Mrs. W. D. (Leah) Collins, Mrs. Wendell (Alta) Sevy, and Mrs. George (Dorothy) Rea, Provo. There are 17 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

    Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Berg Drawing Room Chapel with Bishop Alton Groneman of the Provo Sixth Ward officiating. Friends may call at Berg Mortuary SUnday evening from 6 to 8 and Monday prior to services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery.

    Bert T. Oakley, 76, formerly of Provo, died June 24, 1991 in a Melbourne, Florida hospital after a long illness.

    Born July 15, 1915 in Castle Gate, Utah, a son of Louis N. and Rosalind Atwood Oakley. He attended Provo High School, where he was student body president; Brigham Young University, graduated from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. He retired from Sperry Corporation in New York City as a vice president. He married Allese Duffin, Salt Lake City, divorced; Marie Baer, New York City, deceased; Beth Schmidtke, Melbourne.Survived by wife, three sons, Robert L. Oakley, Rockville, Maryland; Richard Oakley, Boca Raton, Florida; Scott Oakley, Phoenix, Arizona; one sister, Dorothy O. Rea, Provo.

    Memorial services Friday, 2 p.m., Grace Lutheran Church, Melbourne Beach. Burial: Fountainhead Cemetery, Palm Bay, Florida.
