Mr. Spooner retired as director of a number of associated Charlotte companies including Barnhardt Brothers Elastic, American Textile Corp., Barnhardt Export, and Barnhardt International Co. He was officer and director of Tryon Processing Company and Munitex Corporation, both of Tryon, North Carolina. He was secretary and treasurer of St. Peter's Foundation which donated the land for Charlotte Memorial Hospital and a member of the executive committee of Thompson Orphana
