    DANSVILLE, Elmer C. Smith, 89, of Valley View Court in Dansville died
    Wednesday (Dec. 15, 1999) at Noyes Memorial Hospital.
    He was born Oct. 18, 1910 in Dansville, the son of the late Clair and
    Lena (Hulbert) Smith. He was married July 18, 1946 in the Dansville
    Presbyterian Church to Harriet C. (Campbell) Smith to whom he was
    married for 53 years.
    Elmer was a 1928 graduate of Dansville Central School, the first class
    to graduate from the new school. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving
    during World War II from 1942-1945. Elmer had been employed as a
    teller at the former Merchants and Farmers Bank, now HSBC; and the
    Citizens Bank and Trust Co., now Fleet Bank. He was deputy Livingston
    County Treasurer from 1950-1957, and was the office manager of
    Dansville Chrysler Plymouth retiring in 1976 after 19 years of
    service. Elmer was a 50 plus-year member and elder of the Dansville
    Presbyterian Church; a 50 plus-year Mason and member of the Phoenix
    Lodge 115, F & AM, the Opportunity Circle of Kings Daughters and Sons,
    and the Daniel Goho American Legion Post 87.
    Besides his wife Harriet, he is survived by a daughter, Karen (James)
    Lawall of East Greenville, P.A.; a sister-in-law, Arlene Putney of
    Dansville; a cousin, Marilyn Lemen of Dansville; several nieces and
    nephews.
    Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Chamberlin Funeral
    Home, Inc. 73 Main St., Dansville, where a memorial service will be
    held on Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Boohr officiating. A
    Masonic prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 7 p.m. this
    evening. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery at the convenience
    of the family.
    Friends wishing may make memorial contributions to one's own favorite

    DANSVILLE - Harriet Josephine (Campbell) Smith, 88, of Stoner Hill Road in West Sparta and formerly of Valley View Court in Dansville, died Tuesday (June 5, 2007) at her home in West Sparta.

    She was born Oct. 5, 1918, in Dansville, the daughter of the late Charles and Carrie (Deegan) Campbell, and had been a lifelong resident of Dansville. Harriet was married July 18, 1946, to Elmer C. Smith, who she was predeceased by Dec. 15, 1999. Harriet was a graduate of Dansville High School and Rochester School of Commerce. She had been employed at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Geneseo for four-and-a-half years and then retired in January 1984 as secretary at the Ellis B. Hyde Elementary School after 34 years of service. Harriet was a 75-year member of the Dansville Presbyterian Church, where she became a member April 16, 1932, and was ordained a Deacon Feb. 5, 1986, having served in that position for the past 21 years. She was also a life member and past officer of Deborah Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, a member and officer of Opportunity Circle of the King's Daughters and Sons, and was a long time member of the Noyes Hospital Auxiliary, where she served as treasurer for 12 years and also volunteered in the hospital for many years.

    Besides her husband, Elmer, Harriet was predeceased by her brothers, Dana, DeWitt and Clifford Campbell; her sisters, Eleanor and Edith Davis, and Dorothy Forsythe; and son-in-law, James Lawall. She is survived by a daughter, Karen Lawall of East Greenville, Pa.; one sister, Arlene Putney of Dansville; and several nieces and nephews.


    There will be no prior calling hours. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Monday in the McKee Parlor of the Dansville Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. William Wilkinson officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery in Dansville.

    DANSVILLE/EAST GREENVILLE, PA. - Karen S. (Smith) Lawall, 58, of 211 4th St. in East Greenville, Pa., and formerly of Dansville, died unexpectedly July 10, 2007, at her home.

    Karen was born Aug. 22, 1948, in Dansville, the daughter of the late Elmer C. and Harriet Josephine (Campbell) Smith. She was a graduate of Dansville Central School and attended the University of Buffalo for a year before transferring to and graduating from Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, Pa.

    Karen was married to James C. Lawall. She was employed at the Gunlocke Co. in Wayland for a short time and then moved to the East Greenville area as a self-employed, freelance designer and where she and her husband Jim made their home for several years.

    Karen had a great love and admiration for animals and was active in the Montgomery County SPCA. She also enjoyed doing needlepoint.

    Karen was predeceased by her husband James C. Lawall on Aug. 19, 2004; her father Elmer C. Smith on Dec. 15, 1999; and her mother Harriet Josephine (Campbell) Smith on June 5, 2007. She is survived by her aunt, Arlene Putney of Dansville; two cousins, John (Vicki) Putney and daughters of Dansville and Gerald (Bonnie) Putney and son of Nunda; and a cousin, Lois (Vincent) Greene of Dansville.
