  • An obituary was published in the Cuba Patriot and Free Press, on 18 Feb 1932.3

    Worthy Hanks Kinney, for 39 years principal of Lyons Union School, died last night at his home 109 Winton Road, South Rochester, after an illness that began in October.

    Mr. Kinney, 75, was principal of the Cuba and Victor High Schools before going to Lyons in 1888, where he served until his retirement in June, 1927. He moved to Rochester after his retirement from teaching.

    He was a graduate of the University of Rochester and held a master of arts degree. He was a member of the Lyons Civic Club and Lyons Lodge of Elks, and for many years the trustee and clerk of Lyons Baptist Church.

    His services to the Lyons school are commemorated in a bronze tablet in the main corridor of the new school building and in the Edith Kinney Memorial English prize, which he established in honor of his deceased daughter.

    He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie Macafee Kinney; a son, Price W. Kinney; a brother, R. C. Kinney of Belfast and a sister, Mrs. Ella Macafee of Athens, Pa.

    Funeral services will be held at the home Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with burial in Riverside Cemetery.

    Mr. Kinney was an orderly at the Robert Park Hospital for 10 years, retiring about 13 years ago. Surviving is a half-sister, Miss Elizabeth Kinney of Belfast. Funeral and Committal services were held Wednesday at the Athens, Pa. Baptist Church. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Belfast, NY.
