    ---Mrs. Matie E. Murray, 88, 613 N. Marshall ave., widow of Arthur O. Murray, died at Oaklawn hospital Saturday evening after having been a patient there for three and one-half weeks.
    ---Born June 21, 1877 in Lee township, the daughter of Charles and Julia (Schofield) VanArman, she lived in this vicinity all of her life and for the past seven years had resided at the above address.
    ---Survivors include three daughters; Mrs. Carl (Margaret) Greene, 533 Allcott st., Mrs. Albert (Mildred) Huber, Manhasset, N.Y., and Mrs. Edward McVay, Manassas, Va.; six grandchildren and three nieces. Two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Rolla Bennett, Mrs. Clyde Butterfield and Benjamin VanArman, preceded her in death.

Groat of Brooks Methodist church officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in Oakridge cemetery. Friends who wish may call at the funeral home.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Arthur Murray, who died Saturday in Oaklawn hospital, were held at 2 p.m. today at the Court funeral home with the Rev. Wayne Groat, of Brooks Memorial Methodist church, officiating. Paul Humiston was organist. Burial was in Oakridge cemetery. Pallbearers were L. S. Candal, Arthur Goodwin, Homer Devenney, Walter Bolinger, Jr., Charles Seedorff and Jerold MacDonald.

    ...Margaret M. Greene , age 89, of Marshall, died at Select Specialty Hospital in Battle Creek on Wednesday morning, May 24, 2006.
    ...Mrs. Greene was born Dec. 12, 1916 in Marshall to Arthur O. and Elizabeth (VanArman) Murray. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1935, and then attended Argubright Business College in Battle Creek from where she graduated after completing the business curriculum.
    ...She then moved to Lansing where she was a secretary in the State of Michigan Insurance Department, and later at the United States Department of Agriculture. While in Lansing, she met Carl F. Greene. The couple married on November 21, 1940
    ...Mr. Greene entered the U.S. Navy and was stationed with Naval Intelligence on Fiji. Margaret joined Carl there and they were there when Pearl Harbor was attacked. They returned to Washington D.C. and the couple then moved to Vera Cruz, Mexico where Carl was liason to the Mexican Navy. Carl became ill while in Mexico and was sent to a military hospital in Texas. Margaret then moved from Mexico with their infant daughter by herself, returning to Marshall while Carl served his country during the remainder of WWII. After Carl's discharge, they lived several months in Holt, before moving back home to Marshall where she has spent the rest of her life.
    ...Mrs. Greene was very active in the Marshall community. She helped originate the Marshall Home Tour while a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Her kitchen in the home she and Carl built on Alcott Street was one of the first on the original "kitchen tour", which later became the Home Tour. She was very active with Marshall Historical Society over the years, as well as the Marshall Civic Theater. She enjoyed flower gardening. Mrs. Greene was a former member of Marshall Country Club.
    ...Surviving are her husband Carl; their daughter Susan (David) Ratajczak of Marshall and their son, Jeffrey (Julia) Greene of Columbus, OH; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Travis of Marshall, Jamie Heinrich of Newport Beach,CA, Kelley (Daniel) Callicoat of Seattle,WA and Sam Greene of Columbus,OH; 4 great-granddaughters; and her sister, Marianne McVay of Manassas,VA. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Mildred Nolan.
    ...Friends may call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home Tuesday, May 30, 2PM-8PM, where the family will be present to greet friends and share memories 2PM-4PM and 6PM-8PM. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday , May 31, at 11AM at Kempf Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Fountain Clinic. Assistance with memorials available at Kempf Funeral Home.

    ...After graduation he went to work for National City Lines as their cashier and bookkeeper for their Lansing operation. In 1940 he went to work for Motor Wheel Company for a short time before joining the U.S. Navy Department's Intelligence office. He was stationed with them in the Fiji Islands when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. In December 1942 he became a Chief Yeoman and Assistant to the U.S. Navy Department's Commanding Officer for the East Coast of Mexico thru 1942. Carl served with the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge in October of 1945.
    ...Carl was married on Nov. 21, 1940 to Margaret M. Murray. The couple moved back to Margaret's home town of Marshall after WWII and he lived here since then. Margaret preceded Carl in death May 24, 2006.
    ...He was Chief Financial Officer for Warren-Sherer Company in Marshall for many years until his retirement. While there he became a skilled investor which ultimately benefitted a number of charitable organizations in our community.
    ...Carl lent his talents to the investment committees of the boards he served on for the Marshall Community Foundation, the Marshall Rotary Foundation as well as the Southwest Michigan Rehab Foundation. Carl is a 57 year member of Marshall Rotary. He had been the editor of the Rotary Extra several times and still wrote articles for it yearly. He was a former member of the Oaklawn Hospital Board of Directors and a longtime hospital supporter.
    ...He and his wife Margaret were members of the Marshall Historical Society and helped found the first "Kitchen Tour" with their own kitchen one of the five featured on that first "Home Tour" that we still enjoy today. He served several terms as the Historical Society's Treasurer and pitched in with the restoration of the Honolulu House doing something he enjoyed, getting his hands dirty! Carl had a favorite hobby of crafting fine furniture, creating beautiful cabinets.
    ...Carl and Margaret were also early members of the Marshall Civic Players, with Carl even performing on stage. Now one of his favorite roles in life has been grandfather and great-grandfather to his four little ones.
