Edward A. Anderson, a member of the Springfield public school system for nearly sixty years and a lifelong resident of this city, died at 3 a.m. yesterday at his residence, 113 North Walnut street.
Illness of old age caused his death. He marked his eighty forth birthday anniversary June 14.
Mr. Anderson, in his long career as an educator, served in almost every capacity in the school system- teacher, principal, superintendent of schools, attendance officer and member of the board of education.
Mr. Anderson was graduated from Springfield High School in 1878 and in 1880 began teaching at the old Plunkett school. Two years later he went to the Franklin school, where he stayed for three years.
He was then elected principal of the old Second ward school, known as the Trapp school, a position he held for the following twenty-one years. The old school building is still standing at First and Mason streets.
Mr. Anderson left Trapp school to become superintendent of schools, serving a two year term. His next position was membership on the board of education, a post he held for six years.
