He was a devoted supporter of the Duke of Norfolk who, in 1390, intervened personally with the King to have him excused from a charge of murderous assault and other offences committed in 1386 against William Birkes. For his fourth wife he married Lady Elizabeth Fitzalan, widow of the Duke of Norfolk. On 21 July 1403 he died of wounds sustained at the Battle of Shrewsbury.¹
