Sylvia Alfonso, 63, of Rochester NH, passed away peacefully on Dec. 4, 2003, after a period of failing health. Born May 21, 1940, in Ashland ME, she was the daughter of Raymond and Martha (Bragdon) Colbath.
She graduated from Ashland Community High School in 1957. After serving a short term as a medic in the U.S. Army, she met the love of her life, Robert Alfonso, across the dance floor in the NCO Club. They were married in 1960 in Presque Isle ME. She had been a resident of Rochester for 21 years after moving from Portsmouth NH.
Her passions were bingo, bird-watching, gardening, and, most of all, her family. A loving wife and mother whose laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, Sylvia will surely be missed.
Members of her family include her husband Robert Alfonso; daughter Cheryl Harbaugh and husband, Richard and grandchildren Hannah and Nickolas, of New Jersey; son John Alfonso and wife Jeanita and grandchildren Josh, Julio, Josie, and Jane, of Alton NH; daughter Mary Alfonso of Rochester; son Robert Alfonso, Jr., and wife Lauren of Rochester; brothers Ruel and Darrell Colbath, both of Maine; sisters Maxine Schell of Florida, and Alecia Burbee, Sandra McHatten, Averil Blair and Margueite Haines, all of Maine; brother-in-law Norman Alfonso and wife Pat of Florida; and sister-in-law Mary Lou Alfonso of Massachusetts. She was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters.
