Ruth Steckel, age 95, of Mitchell, SD formerly of Letcher, SD died Sunday March 30, 2008 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday at Letcher Community Church with burial at Butler Cemetery, rural Letcher, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Will Funeral Chapel.
Ruth Weatherly Steckel was born April 1, 1912 to Tim and Maude Weatherly at Howard, SD, She moved to Leith, ND with her parents at an early age. She attended school there until her senior year and then moved to Artesian where she graduated in 1930. She married Roy Stekl Sept. 13, 1930. They farmed in SD until 1935 and then moved to Omaha, Neb. A daughter Patricia, was born to this union. She worked sewing tents in a factory during World War Two. They moved to Letcher, SD in 1945 due to Roys ill health where he passed away in Jan 1947.
Ruth married Albert Steckel on Oct.14, 1948. A son, Robert, was born to this union. Albert died July, 1992 and she continued to live on the farm until 1999 when she moved to Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Ruth loved raising chickens and so enjoyed visiting with the many people who stopped to buy eggs.
She was a member of the UCC Church and the American Legion Auxilary of Letcher.
She was survived by her daughter Pat (Delmar) Nowak, Plankinton, SD and a son, Bob (Rita) of Letcher, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one sister Renee Haisch of Puyalllup, Wash., two sisters-in-law, Ilene Moody and Frances Lee of Mitchell and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and infant daughter, one sister and one brother.

NAMPA — Mrs. Nettie V. Seal, 82, Route 3, Nampa, died Friday morning in a Nampa nursing home after a long illness.
Mrs. Seal was born Jan. 25, 1888, in Bancroft, Iowa, and was reared in Iowa. She was married in June, 1909, to Henry N. Seal, and the couple homesteaded in North Dakota. They lived in North Dakota until 1936, when they moved to Nampa. Mr. Seal died May 24, 1952.
She attended the North Nampa Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are five sons, Marlin, Lawrence, Clifton and Douglas Seal, all of Nampa, and Glendon Seal of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Mrs. Florence Linde of Nampa; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Schaefer of Baltic, S.D.; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sisters, a half-brother, a grandson and three great-grandsons.
Services will be conducted at the North Nampa Church of the Nazarene at 2 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev. Edward J. Eichenberger, pastor. Interment will be at Kohlerlawn under direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel.
