The dedication of a plaque for a Revolutionary ancestor, Daniel Kinney, was held at Massena Center Cemetery Sept. 17, 1980.
Daniel Kinney was born Oct. 16, 1759 at Preston, Conn., and died Sept. 12, 1847 at Massena Center, at the age of 88. His
wife, Polly Sprague was born at Malden, Mass. They were the parents of nine children, all buried in Massena and Massena Center cemeteries.
Daniel Kinney enlisted the latter part of 1775 or early in 1776 for one year. He served in Captain Ely's Company, Colonel Parson's Regiment, the Continental line. When Colonel Parsons was promoted, he continued to serve under Colonel Tyler. He was discharged in Stamford, Conn, by the hospital surgeon at the end of 12 months of service.
He was a private and a musician.
