Mansfield CT town records Births Book 4 page 8 shows Ziba Warren and Phoebe as the parents of Joel Warren. Age of father at time of birth was 40 and mother was 36.
The Willimantic Chronicle Newpaper on Aug 2, 1882 wrote that Ziba lived on Spring Hill in Mansfield, CT.
The Willimantic Chronicle Newspaper on June 13, 1883 wrote that Ziba Warren had the "finest and largest apple orchard in the country".
In the June 11, 1884 issue there was an article about Ziba Warren's very large apple orchard. He had over 1,200 apple trees and "his cherry trees the largest number and variety in town".
The house is still standing and is not far from the Uconn campus on Maple Road in Mansfield CT. The house is shown on the 1874 Beers map just east of Eagleville and south of Mansfield Four Corners, CT.1
ETHEL (BOYNTON) PECK
PLYMOUTH & MADISON, CT - Ethel (Boynton) Peck, 93, died Sept. 19, 2000 at Guilford, CT after suffering a stroke. She was the wife of the late William "Cliff" Peck, who died in 1983. Ethel was born Dec. 31, 1906 at South Coventry, CT the daughter of Frank and Bessie (Avery) Boynton. She lived in several towns in Connecticut before settling in East Lyme, where she and Cliff owned and operated a large chicken farm for 20 years. The Pecks retired to Plymouth to pursue their love of fishing and visited many of the lakes in Maine. Both were well known at Cobb's Camp at Pierce Pond in North New Portland, Cliff's favorite lake. He fished there every year and occasioned as an expert guide. Ethel returned to Madison after his death.
She is survived by one son and his wife, Richard and Alice Peck of Newport; 3 daughters, Barbara Coulter of Alberta, Canada, Beatrice Hagele of Satsuma, FL, and Bessie Nilson of Port St. Lucie, FL; a brother, Russell Boynton of Manchester, CT; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 12 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 8 PM Tuesday, Oct. 3rd at The Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Road, Madison, CT. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-8 PM prior to the service. A graveside committal service will be held 10 AM Saturday, October 7th, at the family lot, Sawyer Cemetery, Plymouth, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating. Donations may be made in her memory to the Newport Fire Department, 31 Water Street, Newport, ME 04953. Local arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.2
