Llewellyn LaBruce Perry, 95, died Friday December 31, 2010.
Born in Charleston, SC, October 15, 1915, she was the daughter of Maude Atwood LaBruce and John Bryce LaBruce. A graduate of Ashley Hall and the College of Charleston, she also received a degree in library science from Emory University and served as reference librarian and in various positions at the Charleston Free Library before her marriage.
Llewellyn LaBruce Perry was the widow of the Rev. James Young Perry Jr. who died in 1965. She assisted her husband in the operation of Sky Valley Pioneer Camp in Henderson County in the summer months and was active in various organizations in Asheville in the winter months. She was a volunteer and board member of the Y.W.C.A, member of the Y.W.C.A. Booster Club, Church Women United, Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, the Cathedral of All Souls, and the Episcopal Peace Fellowship.
Llewellyn LaBruce Perry is survived by her daughter, Llewellyn Perry Woollcott and her husband, James, by her son, James Young Perry III and his wife, Carol; by grandchildren, James Philip Woollcott and Llewellyn Woollcott Schiffman of Charleston, SC, James Young Perry IV and Catherine Ann Perry Haden of Hendersonville, John Bryce LaBruce Perry of Goma, DRC, and a stepgrandson, Alexander Philip Woollcott of Atlanta, GA; and by nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Cathedral of All Souls Tuesday, January 18th at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cathedral of All Souls Outreach Commission, Episcopal Relief and Development Fund, Y.W.C.A., Y.M.I., and Four Seasons Hospice.
