An obituary was published

Died - On the 21st of November, at his residence on Tugaloo, Pickens District, Benjamin Perry, Sr., in the eighty-second year of his age. The deceased was a native of Massachusetts, but for more than a half century past, a resident citizen of South Carolina. He 'heard the first guns fired in the cause of Independence, at Concord, on the 19th of April, 1775.' At the age of sixteen he volunteered his services in defense of his country. In 1784 he came to Charleston and thence to Greenville. Some years afterward having purchased a farm on Tugaloo he removed there and spent the remainder of his days in seclusion. He was a kind neighbor and a sincere friend, an affectionate husband, and a devoted father.
