Joyce E. Gates, 54, of E. Main St., Columbus, Pa., died on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at her residence. She was born in Meadville, Pa. on January 23, 1956, a daughter of Lyle Armburger of Corry, Pa. and Lorna Brown Armburger of Corry, Pa.
Joyce moved to Corry as a young girl where she was raised and educated. After graduating from Corry Area High School in 1974, she started working at the former Buyer's Fair Store in Corry. She worked there until retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Corry Central Labor Club. Joyce enjoyed collecting Fenton Glassware, shopping and doing yard work. She also liked spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by two infant sons, Karl and Kyle Gates. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her best friend, Newell Gates, Corry, Pa, by two sisters, Diane Catalfu and her husband, Phil and Joanne Moore and her husband, Dale, all of Corry, Pa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, Corry, Pa. on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend the funeral service there on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Lawn Cemetery in Beaverdam, Pa.
Mrs. Eletha Amelia Fidler, aged 76 years, 10 months and 29 days, died at her home at Fidler's Green, near Grand Valley, at 1:30 o'clock Sunday morning.
She was born on February 10, 1856, at Chappel Hill, daughter of Eli and Amarilla Hanks, and spent practically all of her life in the vicinity of Grand Valley, where she enjoyed a large acquaintance and was held in high esteem. She was widow of David Fidler, who died five years ago on January 12.
Mrs. Fidler is survived by two sons, Frank Fidler of Youngsville and Leon Fidler at home, one daughter, Mrs. May Downey of Youngsville; two brothers, Warren Hanks of Black Ash and Alvin Hanks of Goodwill Hill, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary DeWolfe of Franklin and Mrs. Anna Bailey of Waterford. There are 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
