• Seabury Tredwell was born on 25 September 1780 in Hempstead, New York.^1,2
• He moved with his parents Benjamin and Elizabeth in 1784 to East Williston, New York.²
• In 1798 Seabury moved to New York City to seek his fortune.²
• By 1814 he was listed in the hardward business for himself.²
• He married Eliza Earl Parker on 13 June 1820.¹
• Eliza was the daughter of the landlord of Seabury.²
• In 1832 Seabury bought 700 acres of land in Rumson NJ and 150 acres more the next year. It was forests, shoreline, a large working farm, farm house, tenant farmer's house & oyster pond. Many NY residents left the city during the summer.²
• In 1835 Seabury retired from the hardware business and bought a house at 29 East Fourth St.²
• He died on 7 March 1865 in New York at age 84.³
• He was buried in Christ Church Cemetery, Manhasset, New York.⁴
  

  Gravestone
• Today (2018) there are only 6 living direct descendants of Seabury and Eliza Tredwell, all descended from Samuel & his second wife.²
• The house that Seabury Tredwell bought in 1940 was occupied by members of the family until Gertrude died there age 93 in 1933. Her niece and heir Lillie Nichols was planning on selling the house & contents; however a distant cousin George Chapman, purchased the house and turned it over to a non-profit for 25 years where is was opened to the public as a museum. In 1962 it was taken over as a project of The Decorators Club of New York City, who restored and renovated the house. In 1966 it was designated a National Historic Landmark.²
