Kenneth R. "K.R." Brannian, age 85 of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Brooklyn Community Estate in Brooklyn. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 21, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn with Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial will be in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation will be from 2 until 6 PM on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Kloster Funeral Home in Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Esther of Brooklyn; two daughters, Jeanne Clayton (Rusty) of Brooklyn, Kim Bauman (Lyle) of Brooklyn, and one son Kurt (Kim) Brannian of Carlisle; six grandchildren, Lauren Dillon (Eric) of Chicago, Reed Clayton of Ames, Wyatt Bauman and Allison Bauman of Mt. Vernon, Brock Brannian and Holly Brannian of Carlisle. Also surviving are two brothers Keith and Donald Brannian of Brooklyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son David in infancy.
Kenneth Ross Brannian was born September 18, 1927 in rural Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of Ross and Elsie Elliott Brannian. He attended rural Brooklyn schools, Brooklyn High School, and school of life. He married Esther Ranfeld on August 16, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Kenn served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. Kenn was a lifelong farmer. K.R. was a proud businessman. In 1968 K.R. became owner of Brannian Implement selling International Harvester and various Ag related equipment. He moved this business and developed Brooklyn 80 Restaurant and Standard.
K.R. enjoyed spending his free time going to car races in Knoxville, R.V.ing, Farm Progress Shows, and Bluegrass music. He especially loved his grandchildren.
Esther Brannian, age 83, died Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Brooklyn Community Estate. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 3, 2017, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn with Rev. Joyce Proctor officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn, Iowa. Visitation: 5 to 7 P.M. Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Memorials may be contributed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Esther is survived by two daughters, Jeanne Clayton (Rusty) of Brooklyn, and Kim Bauman of Brooklyn; a son Kurt Brannian of West Des Moines; six grandchildren, Lauren Dillon (Eric) of Alexandria, VA, Reed Clayton of Seattle, WA, Wyatt Bauman of Brooklyn, and Allison Bauman of Salt Lake City, UT, Brock Brannian and Holly Brannian of Des Moines. Also surviving are a brother Charles Ranfeld (Ruth) of Victor, a sister Mabel McWilliams (Delmar) of Victor and a brother-in-law Donald Brannian of Brooklyn and former daughter-in-law Kim Miller Brannian of Des Moines, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Kenneth on January 17, 2013; a son David in infancy; and a son-in-law, Lyle Bauman, Jr.
Esther Louise Ranfeld was born July 5, 1933 in rural Victor, Iowa, to Archie Charles and Addie Louise Huck Ranfeld. She attended the Guernsey schools, and was proud to have played on the girls’ basketball team. Esther married Kenneth Ross Brannian on August 16, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple lived a few years in Kentucky while Kenn was in the service. They returned to Iowa, farmed near Victor, and eventually purchased a farm near Guernsey. In 1970, they moved to an acreage north of Brooklyn. Esther was a vital member of the farm team, and kept the books for the family businesses, including Brooklyn 80 Implement, Brooklyn 80 Standard and the Brooklyn 80 Restaurant.
She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church for 50 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, and helping with Kid’s Club. She also served as the church financial secretary and held many offices with the United Methodist Women.
Esther enjoyed being a loving wife, parent and grandparent, and all that it entailed. She always supported the academic, fine arts, and sport endeavors of each. She enjoyed her garden and yardwork, sewing and reading. She will be missed and treasured by her family and friends. She will be remembered for her quiet, calm and encouraging demeanor. She was a Lady.

Lyle F. Bauman, Jr., age 58 of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at his home. Funeral Services: 10:30 Friday, March 21, 2014, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, with Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Kim; his son Wyatt Bauman (Kalissa) of Brooklyn, and daughter Allison Bauman of Mount Vernon; his siblings, Beverly McCammant (Dale Sr.) of Malcom, Virginia White of Winnsboro, LA, Sharon Linderwell (Bill) of Guttenburg, Roger Bauman of Grinnell and Patricia Massengale (Larry) of Montezuma; and many additional family members, "adopted kids", friends and co-workers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law Kenneth R. Brannian, brother-in-law Jack White, and sister-in-law Dianna Bauman.
Lyle Franklin Bauman, Jr. was born February 12, 1956 in Grinnell, Iowa, the youngest of six children born to Lyle and Ileen Ward Bauman. He attended the Malcom schools and graduated from BGM High School in Brooklyn with the Class of 1975. His early jobs were with Lyle's Market, Maschmann Mobil, Dekalb and Grinnell College. Lyle married Kim Elaine Brannian on March 15, 1980 at Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn. To this union two children were born Wyatt and Allison. The couple moved to Spencer, Iowa where they both worked at Del's Garden Center. They returned to Brooklyn and operated the Brooklyn 80 Standard. This led to the couple operating the Brooklyn 80 Amoco and Restaurant for many years. Other business ventures included Malcom Mobil and Bear Creek Wholesale. Lyle loved meeting and serving his many customers and was grateful for his many wonderful employees. In 1998, Lyle began his career as a student dining room supervisor at Grinnell College. He enjoyed being a part of the Grinnell College family and thoroughly loved working with the students. He was twice selected as "honorary graduate" and was honored with "Lyle's Pub".
Lyle was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, YAMS Sunday school class, Corinthian Lodge #174, and Bear Creek Whitetails. He was a past member of the Brooklyn Ruritans, Brooklyn Fire Department and had been an EMT with East Poweshiek County Ambulance Service. He also was a former member of Jaycees and a Boy Scout leader.
Lyle had many interests, including following his children's many activities during their school years and college. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and carpentry. He followed BGM, Grinnell High School, and Grinnell College sporting events and activities. He loved life and felt he had been truly blessed with a great life. He believed everyone should be an active participant in life, family and community.
Fern Wiehr, age 89, of Danube died Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville. Funeral services are Tuesday, November 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church in Danube with Pastor Dave Drager officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation is at the church on Monday from 5-7 p.m. and continues there Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia.
Fern Lucille Wiehr was born August 21, 1928 at Aberdeen, SD, to Elmer and Mae (Elliott) Sollie. She grew up in Mina, SD and graduated from Warner High School in Warner, SD. Fern married Clarence T. Kaven on June 20, 1951. They lived in several communities and moved to Danube in 1965. Clarence died in 1967 and she married Harold "Butch" Wiehr on January 12, 1974. Fern was employed as an agricultural secretary at the ASCS office in Olivia. She was a member of Danube Senior Citizens and her birthday club. Fern enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, fishing with her grandchildren, sneaking out to the casino to play the slot machines, playing cards, doing word searches, and really loved taking care of her flowers. Purple was her favorite color, and she loved eating Almond Joy's, and cuddling up in her fleece blankets. Fern especially loved being with her family.
Fern is survived by her three children: Randy, Connie and Sharon; her eight grandchildren: Gabriel, Alana, Aaron , Ryan, Kyle, Larissa, Hallie and Kassi; and 14 great grandchildren. Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence T. Kaven; her second husband Harold "Butch" Wiehr; her brother Virgil Sollie; her sister Leota Ryman; an infant daughter Becky Lynn; and her brother-in-law Donovan Bluhm.
