John Thomas Quick, 73, died early today at the Veterans Hospital in Durham. He had been hospitalized several months.
Mr. Quick was born in Gibson, son of the late Robert W. and Elizabeth Gwynn Quick. He was married to the former Laura Manley of Minneapolis, Minn. and lived on Route 1, Bailey.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John T. Jr. of Rocky Mount; a daughter, Mrs. Eugene Bottoms of Dortches; nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter. A veteran of World War I, he served in the Army as a drill sergeant.
Graveside services will be held 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Pineview Cemetery by the Rev. Calvin Rain, pastor of Stoney Creek Baptist Church. Active pallbearers will be Charles Williams, Richard Williams, Bobby Howell, Ken Watson, R.R. Jones, and W.M. Littleton.
The family will receive friends at 1140 Beal Street.
NASHVILLE - Georgia Elizabeth Mayo Quick, 86, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2008. She was born December 16, 1921 to the late J. Claude Mayo, Sr. and Lillie Hedrick Mayo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Quick, Jr; son, James Mayo Parks and sister Jesma Mayo Daniel.
Georgia is survived by her daughters, Beth Quick Joseph and husband Scott Joseph of Rocky Mount; Marianne Quick Matthews and husband H.G. Matthews, Jr. of Nashville; step-son, Craig Quick and wife Mimi of Greenville; grandchildren, Ensign Trey Matthews, US Navy, of Kensington, Maryland, Betsy Matthews of Nashville, Anne McCray Joseph of Rocky Mount, John Quick, Jr. of Lake Bluff, Illinois, Ben Quick of Greenville; great grandson, Jack Quick of Lake Bluff, Illinois. She is also survived by her brother, J. Claude Mayo, Jr. and his wife Fay and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a tremendous thank you to the staff of Autumn Care for their love and compassion over the past weeks.

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Nashville United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount.
