Roland H. Campbell, 94, of Girard, died at 1:06 p.m., Wednesday, July 7, 2021 in the Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg following a heart attack.
Roland was born December 25, 1926 in Meriden, Kansas, the son of Roscoe Conklin and Clara Gladys (Henderson) Campbell.
He grew up and attended schools in Leavenworth and Meriden and graduated from Meriden High School in 1944. He farmed southwest of Topeka and south of Oscaloosa before entering the US Army during WW ll, where he served in the Philippines and Japan. After his service, he returned to farming at Meriden before moving to rural Walnut in 1969. He continued to farm before retiring in 2000.
He married Dorothy Frances "Dottie" Naanes on June 22, 1962 in Topeka. Dottie preceded him in death on May 15, 1989.
He married Janice Elizabeth Blattner on January 6, 1990 in Humboldt, Kansas and she survives of the home.
Roland was a member of the United Methodist Church in Frontenac; a past board member of the Farm Bureau and the Girard Medical Center; the Meriden Masonic Lodge No. 236 and the American Legion in Arma.
Roland enjoyed farming, traveling, square dancing, and country music.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Jan, of the Home, are a daughter, Linda Renee Baum, and her husband, Melvin, of Olathe; a step-son, Mark Muninger (Wendy) of Killen, Alabama; step-daughters, Suzanne Simpson of Pittsburg and Julia Kilcullen (Chris) of St. Louis; numerous step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren; his sisters, Laurel Browning (Everett) of Peru, Nebraska, Helene Hayward (Jack) of Canyon, Texas, and Shirley Bowser (Bob) of Meriden.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Virginia Ludy and Clara McClure.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Reverend Pauline Clugston and Chaplain Adah Hutchcraft officiating. Military honors will be given by the Arma American Legion.
Burial will be in the Hepler Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m., until service time at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home where friends may call from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m., Friday, September 10, 2021.
Peabody - Edward W. Rhodes, Jr., 91 years of Peabody, died on Tuesday November 13, 2018 in the Kaplan Family Estates in Peabody after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Ruth M. (Clothier) Rhodes He was born in Lynn, the son of the late Edward W. Rhodes, Sr. and Martha (Sheldon) Rhodes, He was raised in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School. He was also a graduate of New England Institute in Boston where he received his Funeral Directing Education. He has lived in Lynn, Peabody, Marshfield and Port Orange, Florida. He recently returned to Peabody.
Mr. Rhodes was a WWII Navy Veteran and served in the American, Asiatic and Pacific Theatres of Operation. He served as an Electrician’s Mate. Mr. Rhodes was an Honorary Member of the Boston North Cancer Association Board of Directors and Past President. He was a member of the Lynn Rotary, a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and Past President of the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association.
Mr. Rhodes was the former owner of the Rhodes Funeral Home on Western Avenue and Ocean Street locations. Although Ed worked with his father for many years, Ed took over the family business upon the death of his father Edward W. Rhodes, Sr. Ed served the people of greater Lynn for many years at both the Western Avenue and Ocean Street locations. He represented progressive thinking and traditional values in funeral service. In 1984 he sold the business to David J. Solimine.
He is survived by his son, Edward W. Rhodes III and his wife Gineen L. (Rae) Rhodes and his daughter, Sheryl A. (Rhodes) Keen and her husband Edward “Ted” Keen of Plymouth, his grandchildren, Patrick R. Murphy of Florida, Cassandra M. Waterhouse and her husband Nicholas of Chicopee, MA Kendra L. Rhodes of Peabody, Rachel Keen of Bridgewater, 3 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. He also leaves a sister, Marilyn Wells of Florida.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 8, 2018 in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean Street (Rte. 1A) Lynn at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Ruth M. (Clothier) Rhodes, of Port Orange, FL
Mrs. Ruth M. (Clothier) Rhodes, age 91, of Port Orange, FL, and formerly of Marshfield and Lynn, died on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at her home. She was the wife of Edward W. Rhodes, Jr., with whom she celebrated 71 years of marriage on August 26, 2017. The daughter of the late Frank and Caroline “Vi” (Perry) Clothier.
Ruth was also the mother of Edward W. Rhodes, III and his wife Gineen L. of Peabody, and Sheryl A. Keen and her husband Edward “Ted” of Plymouth and formerly of Marshfield, and the grandmother of Patrick R. Murphy of Titusville, FL, Cassandra M. Waterhouse and her husband Nicholas of Chicopee, Kendra L. Rhodes of Peabody, and Rachel A. Keen of Bridgewater. She also leaves three great-grandchildren.
Ruth was born in Lynn and graduated from St. Mary’s Girls High School. She was the office manager of the T. W. Rhodes Funeral Home of Lynn until her retirement in July of 1984. Active in the Lynn community, Ruth was a member of the Union Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at Lynn Hospital. She was a former communicant of Sacred Heart Church and of St. Mary’s Church. At St. Mary’s she was a member of the Ladies Sodality. She served on the Board of Directors of the Lynn Girls Club and was a member of the Infant of Prague Guild, and of the William P. Connery, Jr., Post 6, American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles and playing games with her family.

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 21, from 10 am to 11 am in the Solomine Funeral Home, 67 Ocean Street (RT 1A) Lynn, followed by a Memorial Service in the Funeral Home at 11 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Sheryl A. (Rhodes) Keen of Plymouth, formerly of Marshfield and Peabody, passed away peacefully after a brave battle waiting for a double transplant at 65 years of age. She was born October 28, 1953. A 1971 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Lynn and Marian Court College in Swampscott. She worked in the Rhodes Funeral Home family business for many years before retiring as a customer service representative at Atlantic Coffee in Weymouth. Her love of the beach and boating was evident by her membership at the Marshfield Yacht Club. She will be remembered by her infectious laugh, great sense of humor, her love of cooking, and love for animals. She will be especially remembered for always putting her family first. She was rarely seen apart from her loving husband of 27 years and she was an extremely proud parent.
She is survived by her husband Edward “Ted” Keen of Plymouth, son Patrick Murphy of Titusville, FL, daughter Rachel Keen of Bridgewater, brother Edward Rhodes III and wife Gineen of Peabody, niece Cassandra Waterhouse and husband Nicholas of Chicopee, niece Kendra Rhodes of Peabody, grandchildren Matthew, Chandler, and Alexander, a great-grandchild Renwick, her lifelong friend Jan Hood, predeceased by her parents Ruth (Clothier) and Edward Rhodes, Jr.
