Carl A. Hogge, 75, of Caldwell, slipped away quietly to be with his Heavenly Father, on October 10, 1992, at his home with his family gathered around him. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Persons-Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Nampa, with Larry Iyman of the Caldwell First Christian Chapel, officiating. Burial will follow at Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa.

Carl was born on Jan. 23, at West Weber, Utah, to William W. and Synthia F. Hoggan Hogge. He spent his first years in Utah. His parents moved to Burley, Idaho, where he finished his high school years. Carl met and married his first wife, Barbara Pixton, Sept. 23, 1936. They had three children, Hal, Jodene and Carl. Carl started working for the Amalgamated Sugar Company as a sample hop when he was 17 and continued on with the company until he became superintendent of their factory in Twin Falls in 1972. He retired from the company after 41 years of service. He did some consultant work for other sugar companies after his retirement. His last years of work were with Mazer Chemicals and PPG, selling chemicals to Amalgamated Sugar Companies for their processing of sugar. Carl loved to hunt, fish and work with wood and gardening.

Carl's first wife, Barbara passed away, and he married Marie Hahn in 1967. They enjoyed 25 years together traveling, hunting and fishing. They built a cabin in Atlanta, ID, and last but not least they built a new home in Caldwell, ID. Carl was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather. We will miss his kind face and ever willingness to help us all. God bless him till we all meet again.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Hogge; one son, Carl D. Hogge; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Frank M. and Sally Hahn; one daughter and son-in law, Jodene and Jim Belt; a stepdaughter, Holly Sonnenberg; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Claude and Alice Hogge, and Lawrence and Pat Hogge; one sister, Lujean and Richard Graf: nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one son, four brothers, and one granddaughter.

Nampa Airman Hal Hogge

Dies in Guantanamo Crash

A Nampa man became one of the first casualties of the Cuban crisis Tuesday when the plane on which he was a navigator crashed at Guantanamo Naval Air Station.

He was Air Force 1st Lt. Hal P. Hogge, about 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hogge, 508 Seventh St. S.

THE AIR FORCE announced at McGuire Air Force Base, N. J., that all seven crew members of the C-135 Stratolifter jet transport were killed when the plane plunged to the ground as it was making a steep landing. The plane was attached to the 611th Air Transport Wing at McQuire AFB.

The Air Force said the steep descent was listed as the probable cause of the crash. The plane left McGuire AFB early Tuesday on the fatal flight to Guantanamo on the island of Cuba. CARL HOGGE is assistant superintendent of the Amalgamated Sugar company's Nampa plant and the family has lived here for many years.

Besides the parents, other family members surviving include a brother, Carl Dennis Hogge, about 22; a sister, Mrs. Jim Bell, Melba, about 24; a cousin, Don J. Hogge of Deer Flat; and a great-aunt, Mrs. Emily J. Hogge of 119 Elder St.

LT. HOGGE was not married. He graduated from Nampa High School in 1955, and attended the University of Idaho before joining the Air Force.

Others killed in the crash were identified by the Air Force as Capt. James F. Bailey, aircraft commander, of Lexington, Tenn.; Capt. John Baird, first pilot, of Fall Brook, Calif.; 1st Lt. Jack F. Duberteen, second pilot, of Elkhart, lnd.; Capt. Edward J. Connard, navigator, of Milton, Del.; T/Sgt. Lester C. Elliott, flight engineer, of Duenweg, Mo.; and S/Sgt. Booker T. Rigby, loadmaster, Kingston, N.C.

Jodene “Jo” Belt, 76, of Ontario, Oregon, passed away at home of natural causes on Monday, April 4, 2016. At her request, private family services will be held at a later date. Cremation is under the care of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.

Jo was born to Carl A. and Barbara (Pixton) Hogge on May, 7, 1939 in Burley, Idaho. She graduated from Nampa High School and attended one year of business school in Salt Lake City, Utah. She worked as a tax preparer, loan officer and owned and managed housing units with her husband. She married James “Jim” Belt on March 24, 1958, in Seattle. They lived in Melba, Kuna, Boise and Lewiston, Idaho and later in Burns and Ontario, Oregon. They had 4 children: Carol, Linda, Lisa, and Ron. Jo enjoyed camping, sewing and cooking.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, two brothers; Hal and Carl Hogge, an infant daughter; Carol Jane and one special nephew: Corky Williams. She is survived by her children: Linda (Bill) Root, Lisa (Ron) Seebart, Ron (Deanne) Belt, grandchildren: Vanessa Root, Joseph (Tabetha) Seebart, Cassidy, Caleb and Kyle Seebart, Makaela (Alex) Miller, Tyler Belt and Allison LaMotte, great grandchildren: Kyla, Jeshua, and Luke Seebart, Madelyn, Zoe and Sophie Miller and a special niece Margie Widger.

A special “Thank You” to close family friends: Jan Nigro, Sue Eaton and John and Jeanne Bennett, and to the caring staff at Heart ‘n Home Hospice, especially her nurses; Cindy and Cheryl.
