Near this place lies interred the body of Dorcas Sargeant widow of Thomas Sargeant, Alderman of this town whose Ancestors (for many Generations) had been principall Magistrates of this Corporation. She was a good Wife, tender Mother, candid Neighbour, devout Christian, and a worthy example to posterity. She was born, always lived, and dyed in this Parish the 29th day of August in the Year 1729 in the 93.d Year of her age.

Near this Place lye the Bodies of Mrs. Dorothy Beckett (Relict of Mr. Thomas Beckett late of Congleton in the County of Chester Surgeon) and Mrs. Anne Sargeant Daughters of Mr Thomas Sargeant late Alderman of this Corporation. Mrs. Anne Sargeant dyed the 3rd of Nov. 1738 Aged 68. Mrs. Beckett dyed the 15th of March 1747 Aged 90. They jointly settled an Estate in Trust, for cloathing and teaching Thirty poor Girls of this Parish. Mrs. Anne Sargeant gave by Will 50 (pounds, I think) to adron this Church.

On 24 February 1524 he was commissioner of the peace in Buckinghamshire, and on 1 Apr 1524 he was a collector of the subsidy for the French War (during the time of Henry VIII.)²
He died on 23 January 1543 at age ~80.^1,2
***Research Conclusion: In The Sargent Genealogy by Aaron Sargent it is stated that Roger Gifford is the son of Thomas Gifford of Twyford and his wife Mary. This has later proven to be untrue - see The New England Historic and Genealogical Register, vol 75, April 1921, p 135-136.³

Will

Roger Gifford left a will dated on 24 September 1538 He mentions his wife Mary, his sons John (eldest son), George (second son), Rauffe (third son), William (fourth son), and Nycholas (youngest son), and provides for the occupation of the manor of Middle Claydon by his sons.²
