Evelyn Smith
Evelyn Smith, 88 of Ontario. formerly of Nampa, died Friday, October 9, 1992, at a Payette Care Center. Vigil services will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. today, Oct. 11, at Persons-Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Nampa. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Nampa, by the Rev. Fr. Paul Mathews, S.M. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell.
Evelyn Smith was born June 6, 1904, at Beaver City, Nebraska, a daughter of Frank and Mary Inman Coffin. She was reared and educated in Nebraska, graduating from Nurses Training School as Valedictorian of her class in 1954. She moved to Idaho in 1962, where she was employed at Caldwell Memorial Hospital and Reynolds Nursing Home until her retirement. Even though retired, she cared for all her neighbors and friends when they were ill or injured, especially senior citizens. During the depression in Nebraska, she would travel with doctors assisting them in many home baby deliveries.
She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Joan Smith of Ontario, Ore.; a daughter and son-in-law, Doris Burry Peck and her husband, Gust of Kent, Wash.; one sister, Sybil Ann O'dea of Ontario, Ore., nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother and one daughter, Esther Fries.
Friends may call today from 1 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Persons-Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
