Alice May House, 87, passed away on Monday (Feb. 23, 2004) at the Centre Crest Skilled Nursing Facility in Bellefonte after a brief illness.
Alice was born on Jan. 3, 1917, in Coudersport, the daughter of Ray Franklin and Clara Edith Allen Ayers. On Nov. 24, 1938, in Coudersport she married Harold W. House, who died Sept. 6, 1980.
Alice was a lifelong resident of the Coudersport area and was employed with the former Brownhill and Kramer Hosiery Mill from 1937-1941. From 1941-1942 she was employed with the former Anchor Toy Company and from 1971-1978 she was employed at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the former Evangelical United Brethren Church of Sweden Valley.
Alice is survived by two daughters, Barbara J. Colburn of Jacksonville and Fern M. Davis of Hot Springs Village, AR; two sons, Douglas H. House and David W. House, both of Austin; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, a stepgranddaughter, a brother, George F. Ayers, two sisters, Nira Holcomb and Mildred Neefe; two half brothers and three sisters who died in infancy.
Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 27, 2004) at the Fickinger Funeral Home, Coudersport, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Glenn Hamilton will officiate. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell, NY.
Memorial contributions in Alice's memory may be made to the Coudersport Public Library, 502 Park Avenue, Coudersport, Pa 16915, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
