Emma Esther Newberry was born on 18 February 1924 in Wellington, Kansas.¹
She appeared on the 1930 US Federal Census of Jackson, Sumner County, Kansas, enumerated on 24 April 1930, in the household of her parents Oscar Seith Newberry and Edith.²
Emma Esther Newberry married Donald A Applegate on 14 December 1944 in Wellington, Kansas.³
She died on 31 October 2009 in Wichita, Kansas, at age 85.¹
She was buried in Wichita Park Cemetery and Mausoleum, Wichita, Kansas.¹

November 3, 2009 Emma Esther (Newberry) Applegate, 85, went to her heavenly home on October 31, 2009.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Don; daughter, Lynnette Applegate; parents, Oscar & Edith (Brown) Newberry; brothers, Paul, Aaron, Raymond, Warren & Fred Newberry; sisters, Gladys Brockmueller & Ruth Norell. She is survived by sons: Warren and Roger, both of Norman, OK; Melvin of Wichita, KS; daughters & son-in-law: Lynda Applegate of Wichita, KS and Brenda & Jeff Granger of Douglass, KS; grandsons, Noah & Levi Granger and sister, Dorothy Falconburg of Vilas, CO. She also leaves behind her "adopted by love" granddaughters, Ashlee (Morgan) Lowry, Amber, Amy & Amanda Morgan, the daughters of Steve & Dotty Morgan and faithful "granny sitters", Joy Shellenberger and Aimee & Samantha Shrout.

Visitation with family present 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Thursday, Broadway Mortuary. Funeral services 1:30 pm, Friday, at West Side Church of the Nazarene. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials have been established with the West Side Church of the Nazarene - W&W Scholarship Fund, 2300 S.
