Story

Written by Hannah:

The Civil War was a trying time. After Edmond, my husband, left for the war, I was home alone with our son. He was gone for over three and one-half years. For over eight months he was in prison camps of the South including Andersonville. The prisoners were the victims of many situations. The situation they feared the most was illness. With no care or means to help themselves, it was difficult to stay alive in prison camps. Many of the North's soldiers died there from scurvy and diarrhea. We were sure Edmond was one of those who died. If you want to know more as to what Edmond was subjected to, find and read a book that relates to the operation and happenings of the Andersonville prison during the Civil War. It was a God's sent to have Edmond return. We all loved him so dearly. Coming to the Red River Valley was just what he needed. He could now enjoy the peace of the area and could be a part of the marvelous transformation of a wilderness into a fertile place for an aspiring population.
