Daughter of James Alba Parmenter and Bernice Emily (Peaslee). She was married to Paul R. Bennett, now deceased, for 73 years.
Asenath graduated from Henniker High School. She was of a member of the Henniker Historical Society, the Congregational Church of Henniker and the First Parish Church of Dover. After moving to Dover in 1944, she became active in extension services and 4-H. She taught many women in the Dover area how to upholster furniture, braid rugs and cane chairs and so forth. She became famous for her knitted dishcloths, pot holders and beautiful quilts. She was an avid Red Sox and Celtics fan. She never drove a car.
She was predeceased by her husband; her parents; six brothers; and one sister. Asenath is survived by her daughter, Joann B. Leonard and her husband, Richard B. Leonard, of Berwick, Maine; seven grandchildren, Michael and Holly Leonard of Franklin, Mass., Dennis and Patricia Leonard of Seekonk, Mass., Stephen and Nancy Leonard of Hudson, N.Y., Karen and Frank Osborne of Milford, Mass., Susan Leonard of Lewiston, Maine, Thomas Leonard of Franklin, Mass., and Annette Leonard of Bellingham, Mass.; 20 great-grandchildren; 10½ great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Audrey Schaefer of Henniker; one sister-in-law, Vivienne Parmenter of New Mexico; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank her "James Street Angels," the Meals on Wheels program and the Homemakers Health Services. Also thank you to the nurses on 3 North and in the ICU, as well as the doctors at Wentworth Douglas Hospital for all the care and love given to her.
