He was killed at the Battle of Cold Harbor.
Letter written to Wayne County Paper by his former Captain later Major Snyder:
"It grieves me much to hear of the death of Egbert Cady; a more frank, open-hearted and brave boy never lived. He fills a patriot's grave; the soil of Cold Harbor never received a braver heart, though buried by stranger hands. He sleeps in peace, and I would say to his bereaved parents, 'You have given a noble sacrifice to your country, and he will meet you at the final muster day when the noble Army of the Potomac shall fall in.'."2
