Austin Peterson
Austin “Pete” Gridley Peterson, Jr., age 88, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2014. Austin was born to Austin and Willie Mae Peterson in Chicago, IL on March 26, 1925 and was raised in Washington, D.C. He graduated high school from Fork Union Military Academy and college from the University of Maryland. He worked many years in the pharmaceutical industry and later established and operated with his wife Helen a surgical supply business in Birmingham.
Austin is predeceased by his wife Helen. He is survived by his children Mark A. Peterson (Debi) of Slidell, LA; Lynn Rowe (Sam) of Fort Pierce, FL; Derek Peterson of Birmingham, and two grandchildren, Jonathan Rowe and Rachel Rowe.
The memorial service for Mr. Peterson will be at 1:00pm on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Floral tributes are appreciated, but in lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Pete can be sent to Fork Union Military Academy, P. O. Box 278, Fork Union, VA 23055.

Helen S Peterson
BORN MAY 25, 1927
PETERSON, HELEN SPIVEY Helen Spivey Peterson, age 84, went to be with the Lord May 30, 2011. Helen was born to Orestes and Alethia Spivey in Ryland, N.C. on Jan. 5, 1927 and was raised in Arlington, VA. She was a graduate of James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA. Helen was an accomplished vocalist and was very devoted to her family. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Austin G. Peterson of Birmingham; children Mark A. Peterson (Debi) of Slidell, LA, Lynn Rowe (Sam) of Fort Pierce, FL, and Derek A. Peterson (Laura) of Birmingham; grandchildren S. Jonathan Rowe and Rachel Rowe of Fort Pierce, FL; sister Norma Nistle of St. Petersburg, FL. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, Pelham. There will be visitation preceding and a reception following the service.
