Andrew E. Motter Andrew E. Motter, 64, of Sullivan died Feb. 28, 2008, at his home after a period of declining health.
He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Oct. 3, 1943, son of Raymond E. and Persis (Clark) Motter.
Mr. Motter spent his early childhood in Sullivan before his family moved to Whippany, N.J.
He graduated from Hanover Park High School in East Hanover, N.J., and went on to graduate from Parsons College, a progressive liberal arts college in Iowa.
Mr. Motter served in the Peace Corps from 1966 to 1968 in Nigeria, Africa.
On Dec. 27, 1969, he married Signe Iversen in Oslo, Norway.
He went on to receive his master's degree in urban planning in 1973 from Boston University. Mr. Motter continued in urban and regional planning throughout his career, and was employed by the Federal Transit Authority in Cambridge, Mass., as a regional transportation planner at the time of his death.
He was an accomplished woodturner and a member of the Central New England Woodturners Association. A respected teacher, Mr. Motter was a woodturning instructor at the Worcester Center for Crafts and the Homestead Woodworking School. He started a business selling woodworking tools, which he named Butternut Tools. In addition to his love of woodturning, he was an accomplished guitarist and drummer.
Mr. Motter especially enjoyed being with his wife and two daughters at their home in Sullivan. Though his work was out of state, he was always home on weekends.
