At 7 o’clock Friday morning Oscar, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Livingston who reside on Skinner Settlement road, died quite suddenly after an illness of less than twenty-four hours. The young man had been suffering from diabetes since last spring, though he had been able to assist about the farm work. On Thursday he accompanied a brother to Empyville with a load of apples to make cider and during the afternoon was taken seriously ill with a severe pain in his abdomen. He was taken to the hotel in East Florence and given a bed. Dr. Maxwell was called and prescribed medicine that relieved the patient. Deputy Sheriff F. O. Walt who was coming to Camden, brought the young man to his home northeast of this village. During the trip the lad would not talk and groaned considerably, and he never spoke after his arrival home. Mr. Livingston came to this village, but all the physicians were out and before medical assistance could be secured, he had expired. Deceased was born in the town of Florence 21 years ago. Besides his parents he is survived by three brothers and six sisters. They are Arthur, Walter, Howard, Ella, Carrie, Nettie, Mabel and Myrtis of Camden and Mrs. Cora Pinkerton of Glens Falls. This is the third death in Mr. Livingston’s family, two little girls having passed on before – one being burned to death. In their sad hour of sudden bereavement, they have the sympathy of the community.
The funeral was held from the house Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. Thomas Whiffen of the Free Methodist church of this village officiating. Interment was made in the Grilley cemetery on the State road.
