Ralph Andrew Fletcher, Jr. ("Andy") originally from Westford, MA, died January 6, 2024, in Venice, FL. Andy-Jr was 97 years old. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 30 years, Franny Bliss Hall Fletcher (d. 2017). His survivors include three children (from his first marriage to R. Louise Fisher Fletcher): R. Andrew Fletcher III, Phebe McKean Fletcher and Henry Hasbrook Fletcher. His second son, Robert Louis Fletcher, died just one day after his father on January 7, 2024 at the age of 72. Andy is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Andy grew up in Westford and attended the Frost Elementary School, the Fenn School in Concord, MA and St. Mark's School in Southborough, MA from which he graduated at an accelerated pace in 1944 to join the US Navy for service on active duty in the Pacific on the USS Halloran. After WWII Andy attended Harvard University (Class of 1950) before joining the H.E. Fletcher Company, a family-owned granite company in Westford. He rose to become its Treasurer and Vice President, and was granted two patents and worked to improve energy efficiency at the company, leaving in 1977 for other persuits. Over these years, among many other interests, he was an outdoorsman who particularly loved fly fishing, bird hunting and skiing, and became the North Atlantic Skeet champion for two years.
Andy began attending AA meetings in the early 1970's and by the time of his death he had been alcohol-free for 52 years. It was at one of those meetings in NH that he met his beloved Franny. They shared a happy, active life together, living in both New Hampshire and Florida for many years where they enjoyed canoeing, hiking, mountain climbing, and traveling.
A memorial service and reception will be held in Venice, FL at Village on the Isle in Renaissance Rooms I and II on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 10 am to 12 noon. A second memorial service and burial is tentatively planned for June in New England.
