Gloria Ann Denney "Granny," 77, of Moab, Utah, peacefully passed away Feb. 13, 2012 in her home, surrounded by family.
She was born Feb. 17, 1934 in Moab, to Ken and Helen McDougall.
On May 15, 1951, she married the love of her life, Venice Calvin Denney, in Aztec, N. M. Together they made Moab their home and raised four wonderful children, Kenneth, Kevin (Jan), Karie, and Kelly (Rochell). She was a loving granny to Vanessa, Nicholas, Jenny, Steven, Jason, Angie, Calvin, Mariah, Samantha, and Denney, and a proud great-grandmother to Connor, Ryelan, Colby, Johnathan, Amelia, Cash Venice, Kelvin, and Daxtyn.
She is survived by her brother, Ted McDougal (Vonna).
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Ken and Helen McDougal; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Denney.
Granny made all of her family proud. She was the Grand County librarian for 34 years. She received her bachelor's degree in psychology from Utah State University after raising her four children. She was an avid reader, a tough ping pong competitor, champion of rummy, and always made her family laugh.
She also enjoyed spending time at the cabin that Papa built for her in the La Sal Mountains. She was the most nurturing person we could ever know (unless you beat her at cards, which rarely happened, then you better watch out). She had many passions and she knew what she wanted out of life.
A viewing will be held Thursday, Feb. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Spanish Valley Mortuary in Moab. Graveside services will be held Friday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. at the Grand Valley Cemetery.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.SpanishValleyMortuary.com.
