Donald W. VanWagnen, 80, of Dansville passed away early Friday morning, June 11, 2004, at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. Don was born in Rochester on April 23, 1924, a son of the late Howard and Helen Webster VanWagnen. On Nov. 30, 1984, he married Kathleen Starzynski, who survives. He was also predeceased by a grandson, Todd Kenney, and two sons-in-law, Gerald Derrenbacher and Jack Alvord.
Don owned and operated his own farm in West Sparta for many years. He was a bus driver for LATS for 20 years, retiring in 1999. He was a Meals on Wheels driver for the Dansville Senior Nutrition Program, a Royal Arch Mason and a member of Phoenix Lodge #115 of the F&AM, the West Sparta Grange, the Keshequa Golf Club and the Committee on Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service.
Surviving in addition to his wife Kathy are his son Andrew (Connie) VanWagnen of Ohio; four daughters, Dianne Derren-bacher of Syracuse, Donna Alvord of Dansville, Darlene (Rodney) Wambold of Geneseo and Debbie (Mike) VanDer-werken of New Jersey; a stepson, Tony Savukinas of Pennsylvania, and a stepdaughter, Mary (Roger) Forell of Syracuse; a brother Robert (Wilma) VanWagnen of Batavia; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends called Sunday 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville, where services were held Monday at 1 p.m. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville. A Masonic memorial service was held Sunday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
Kathleen "Kathy" Van Wagnen age 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday evening January 20, 2019, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
She was born in Nanticoke, PA on April 12, 1942, the daughter late Raymond and Violet (Gorski) Starzynski. On November 30, 1984, she was married to Donald Van Wagnen who predeceased her on June 11, 2004.
Kathy was a Communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary's Church in Dansville. Active in her church she played the guitar with a folk group, was a Eucharistic Minister, a Lecture and on the Human Development and Liturgical Committees. She was formerly employed by the Livingston County Office of the Aging as an Aging Services Caseworker, Project Director and Sight Manager for the Senior Nutrition Program of Livingston County. In her free time, she enjoyed playing golf and gardening.
She is survived by a son, Anthony "Tony" Savukinas of Dansville, her daughter, Mary (Roger) Forell of Syracuse granddaughters Aleah, Savannah and Dakotah Forell, a brother Raymond (Mary Ellen) Starzynski, step-children, Dianne Derrenbacher, Donna Alvord, Darlene (Rodney) Wambold, Debbie (Mike) Van Derwerken and Andrew Van Wagnen, many step-grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her beloved and spoiled dog, Lily.
Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville, N.Y.
