Theo B. Redfern, 94, formerly of Ten Rod Road, librarian-clerk at the Rhode Island Medical Center for more than 17 years before retiring in 1965, died yesterday at the West View Nursing Home, West Warwick. She was the widow of Herbert E. Redfern.
Born in Milford, Mass., a daughter of the late Heman S. and Ellen (Lindsey) Crosby, she lived in Woonsocket many years before moving to North Kingstown 17 years ago.
She was a 60-year member of the General Meade No. 7, Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic, and was national president of the organization in 1943 and 1944. She was a member of the First Universalist Church, Providence.
Mrs. Redfern was also editor of the medical center's magazine.
She leaves two sons, Alden L. Redfern of Cranston and Vernon C. Redfern of Warwick; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Swan Point Cemetery Chapel, Blackstone Boulevard, Providence. Cremation will follow.

ALDEN L. REDFERN, 89, formerly of Golden Years Retirement Home, High Street, a machinist with Brown & Sharpe Manufacturing Co. and Bulova Watch Co. for many years before retiring, died Saturday at Westerly Health Center. He was the husband of the late Hermine C. (Wagner) Redfern.
Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Herbert and Theo C. (Crosby) Redfern, he lived in Cranston before moving to Westerly two years ago.
Mr. Redfern was a member of Doric Lodge 38, F&AM, in Cranston. He was a member of the Shriners Band, with which he played for both the National and State Guards.
As a former musician, he had played for various local and New York radio stations, and performed until his recent illness. He was also known for making coin jewelry for craft shows.
He leaves a son, Allan R. Redfern of Weekapaug; a daughter, Janice-Anne Alexander of New York City; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Swan Point Chapel, Blackstone Boulevard, Providence.

PORTSMOUTH - Vernon Chester Redfern, 97, of Indian Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, died Friday, August 8, 2008 at the Village House Nursing Home, Newport, RI.
He was the husband of the late Doris (Pike) Redfern. Edit: (1914-1995)
Born in Pascoag, RI, on June 5, 1911, he was the son of the late Herbert E. and Theo (Crosby) Redfern.
Mr. Redfern had worked as a mechanical designer for many years for Gulton Industries, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Harmony Lodge of Masons and the Lions Club both of Warwick.
He is survived by his children Nancy Lunn of Ashaway, RI, Paul Redfern of Queensland, Australia, Steven Redfern of Dunedin, FL and David Redfern of Palm Harbor, FL, six grandchildren, and his friend Ruth Simpson of Portsmouth.
He was also the brother of the late Newton Redfern and Alden Redfern.
Funeral services and burial will be private.

Hermine C. Redfern, 78, of Holburn Avenue, a jewelry worker at Monet Jewelry Co., formerly of Providence now of Warwick, for seven years before retiring in 1975, died Friday at home. She was the wife of Alden L. Redfern.
Born in Woodside, Long Island, N.Y., a daughter of the late William and Hermine (Roemer) Wagner, she lived in Cranston for the past 54 years previously living in New York.
Mrs. Redfern was previously employed sa a photo librarian at the New York Times several years. She was a member of Signet Chapter 1 Order of the Eastern Star.
Besides her husband she leaves a son, Allan R. Redfern of Westerly; a daughter, Janice-Ann Alexander of City Island, N.Y.; a sister, Gertrude Williams of Los Angeles, Calif., and three grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Swan Point Cemetery Chapel, Blackstone Boulevard, Providence. Cremation will follow.
