John S Sargent attended the Leicester Academy, and went to Chicago Illinois in the fall of 1861. He was connected with the Michigan Central Railroad, remaining with the road until 1875, when he engaged in private business in the city of his adoption, emjoying the confidence of all with whom he had business relations, and in social life held in esteem by a large circle of acquaintances. Of good Revolutionary stock, he became an active member of the Illinois Sons of the American Revolution, holding official position therein. He was appointed paymaster of the Chicago Continental Guard, and was one of the charter members of the Illinois Society of Colonial Wars, and also became a member of the Massachusetts society, and the Illinois Society, Sons of Massachusetts.
