WELLINGTON-E. Claude Gannett, who would have celebrated his 69th birthday on Sunday, died Thursday night at his Winter home in Leesdale, FL of a heart attack. He had lived in Spencer nearly all his life except for the past several Winters which were spent in Florida. He was a retired farmer.
His wife, the former Christy Hange, bringing the body to Wellington, arrives here on Sunday morning. It will then be taken to the Parker Funeral Home in Spencer. Funeral arrangements are pending arrival of the body.
Sruvivng him besides his wife are a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Thompson of 116 Pleasant Street, Wellington; one grandson and three great granddaughters. One sister Mrs. Homer Sooy (Ella) of Penfield also survivies.
Avery C. Sooy June 30, 1919 - December 1, 2012
Avery C. Sooy, 93 of Penfield, OH passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 after a brief Illness.
Avery was born June 30, 1919 in Penfield to Homer and Ella (Gannett) Sooy. He was a lifelong resident of Penfield. He graduated from Penfield High School in 1937, and later married Helen (Neidhardt) Sooy, his wife of 71 years. A retired dairy farmer, he worked the family homestead until the late 1970's.
Avery was a former Penfield Twp. trustee, a member of Farm Bureau, Order of Eastern Star, Wellington Masonic Lodge, and Spencer United Methodist Church. A familiar figure at local fairs and livestock auctions, Avery enjoyed buying, selling and trading dairy cattle and horses. He loved traveling with his wife, family gatherings, music, and gardening. Avery was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play various high school and college sports. He was an avid fan of the Keystone Wildcats softball team and the Cleveland Indians.
Surviving are his loving wife Helen, 2 Daughters, Linda (Jerry) Jackson of Penfield, Paula (Jeff) Terlecky of Vienna, OH 10 Grandchildren, Kim Weigl of North Ridgeville, Gaylene Weigl of Olmsted Falls, Beth Johnson of Mercer Island, WA Don Jackson of Penfield, Ray (Colleen) Jackson of DeGraff, Justin (Corrine) Jackson of Spencer, Bonnie Belle (Harry) Karam of Downington, PA Curtis (Gabrielle) Breyley of Medina, Jared (Kristen) Terlecky of Vienna, Seth Terlecky of Vienna, 14 Great-Grandchildren Many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Ruthann Weigl and Bonnie Breyley; sisters, Dorothy Workman and Esther Brown; and brothers, Frank and Harold.
Funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 7, at 11:00 AM at the Spencer United Methodist Church, 201 E. Main St., Spencer. Rev. Dr. Tim Morrison will officiate. Burial will follow at Spencer Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 PM at the Parker & Son Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St., Spencer (330-648-2180). Ruthann S. Weigl, 63, of Penfield Township, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at Elyria Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 10, 1943, in Lodi to Avery and Helen Neidhardt Sooy and was a lifelong resident of the Penfield area. Mrs. Weigl graduated from Keystone High School in 1961 and Ashland University in 1965, and received her master's degree from Ashland University in 1994. She started teaching at Ashland City Schools in 1965 and later taught at Wellington Schools in a career that spanned 32 years, retiring in 2000.
Mrs. Weigl was a member of Spencer United Methodist Church, where she served on various church committees and was a longtime choir member and soloist for numerous special occasions. She also was a member of the Lady Nesters Golf League at Indian Hollow Golf Club, Wellington Literary Club, and she was a volunteer at the Lorain County Board of Elections. Mrs. Weigl was an LMRE Scholarship Fund evaluator and a 4-H Horse Club adviser for many years in which she participated with her daughters. She enjoyed flower and herb gardening, was a pianist, an avid reader and loved fashion and shopping. She was a sports enthusiast and Cleveland Indians fan and also enjoyed traveling to historic places.
Mrs. Weigl is survived by her husband, Gary, whom she married July 14, 1961; daughters, Kimberley Sheffield of Elyria, Gaylene Weigl of Olmsted Falls and Elizabeth (Stanley) Johnson of Mercer Island, Wash.; granddaughters, Niah, Giselle and Quincy Johnson; parents, Avery and Helen Sooy of Penfield Township; and sisters, Linda (Gerald) Jackson of Penfield Township and Paula (Jeff) Terlecky of Vienna, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Breyley, in 2005.
Service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Spencer United Methodist Church, 201 E. Main St. The Rev. Cara Stultz Costello of Spencer will officiate. Burial: Penfield Cemetery. Visiting hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
