Worthy Hanks Kinney, for 39 years principal of Lyons Union School, died last night at his home 109 Winton Road, South Rochester, after an illness that began in October.
Mr. Kinney, 75, was principal of the Cuba and Victor High Schools before going to Lyons in 1888, where he served until his retirement in June, 1927. He moved to Rochester after his retirement from teaching. He was a graduate of the University of Rochester and held a master of arts degree. He was a member of the Lyons Civic Club and Lyons Lodge of Elks, and for many years the trustee and clerk of Lyons Baptist Church. His services to the Lyons school are commemorated in a bronze tablet in the main corridor of the new school building and in the Edith Kinney Memorial English prize, which he established in honor of his deceased daughter.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie Macafee Kinney; a son, Price W. Kinney; a brother, R. C. Kinney of Belfast and a sister, Mrs. Ella Macafee of Athens, Pa.
Funeral services will be held at the home Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with burial in Riverside Cemetery.
Roy D. Kinney, 82, formerly of Sayre, Pa.,died recently at the Bradford County Infirmary.
Born in Belfast, he spent his early life in that area and attended the Rochester School of Music. He was well known for his piano playing ability. Mr. Kinney was an orderly at the Robert Park Hospital for 10 years, retiring about 13 years ago.
Surviving is a half-sister, Miss Elizabeth Kinney of Belfast. Funeral and Committal services were held Wednesday at the Athens, Pa. Baptist Church. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Belfast, NY.
Shirley Jean (Sargent) Stevens, daughter of Marion Francis and Ruby Opal (Wood) Sargent, was born October 30, 1936, in Lebanon, Missouri, and departed this life on October 22, 2006. At the time of her passing she was 69 years of age.
Preceding her in death were her parents. Survivors include her husband, Don, of the home; one son, James Stevens and wife, Sherry, of Morris, Ill.; two daughters, Jeannie Stone and husband, Jonathan, of Ash Grove, Mo., and Tasha Odom and husband, Richard, of Morris, Ill.; one sister, Jeri Dinwiddie and husband, Mike, of Buckner, Mo.; 13 grandchildren: Kristin and Nicholas Stevens, Chandra and Shane Richerdson, Jereme and Tara Klinker, Steven and Katie Klinker, Bethany, Sarah, Timothy and Ruby Stone, Kelsey, Mathew and Alex Immel and Jordyn Odom; four great-grandchildren: Melody and Kara Leeper, Kysen Klinker and Zaylee Klinker; one niece, Dena Dinwiddie; and one nephew, Todd Dinwiddie.
Funeral services for Shirley Stevens will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2006, in Day Funeral Home, Marshfield, with Rev. Jack Day officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Conway, Mo. Visitation will be held tonight, October 24, 2006, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Graceland Cemetery Fund.
