Daughter of Thomas Smith and Ellen (Williamson) Smith; wife of Marcenus L. Sargent.
"Mrs. Julia Sargent passed away at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Adolph Mussell on Saturday, April 28. Her death is a significant one to a great many in this community who loved and esteemed her as a woman who gave herself unselfishly to the comforts of others.
Mrs. Sargent was born at Wabasha July 8, 1855, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Smith, late of Plainview. She was married to Marcenus Sargent in 1875, her husband preceding her in death forty years ago. Since that time she has made her home with her children and friends. She has, however, always sought to make her life useful and the homes in which she lived were always made more comfortable and pleasant by her presence. Her whole life has been spent in this vicinity. For the past year and a half her home has been with her granddaughter.
Mrs. Sargent was the mother of five children, Mrs. Daisy Grieve, a daughter, and Dale, a son, preceding her in death. The surviving children are Louis Sargent of Austin; Fred Sargent of Elgin; and Mrs. Charles Fed of Dover, Ohio. There are also two sisters, Mrs. Esther Wood of Plainview and Mrs. Mary Glenn of Minneapolis, two brothers, Frank Smith of Creshard, S.D. and Ed Smith of Kimberly, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren." Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Foley and Lindsey funeral chapel, Rev. G. E. Martin conducted the services. The remains were laid to rest in Greenwood cemetery.
