PLAINVIEW -- The funeral for Roy "Corky" Mussell will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview, with the Rev. David Frederickson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Plainview.
Mr. Mussell, 85, of Plainview, died of natural causes Monday (Nov. 26, 2007) at St. Isidore Health Care Center in Plainview. He was born July 25, 1922, in Plainview Township, Wabasha County, and attended French Country schools. He farmed briefly with his father before being employed by Kruger Implement as a mechanic for many years. He married Ruth McFarlin on Nov. 4, 1944, in Plainview. Mr. Mussell retired in 1984, then started an engine repair business, "Corky's Repair," which he operated until 1999. He also helped his wife operate the Plainview Hotel from 1968 to 1986. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf, was an avid gardener, and was a former member of the Plainview Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife; three sisters, Lois Carter of Plainview, Bernice (Rev. Martin) Russert of Norfolk, Neb., and Marjorie (Joe) Struck of New Jersey; two brothers, Ade (Gerrie) of Savage, Minn., and Frederick (Veron) of Stewartville. Other survivors include three granddaughters, Kelley Smith, Elisa Peabody and Kim McHugh; two grandsons, Scott Meyer and Jeff Smith; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters and three brothers.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview, and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
Rita R. SMITH 57, passed away suddenly Saturday night at her home in Maple Valley, WA.
Born in the small southern Minnesota farming community of Plainview, Rita was the younger of two daughters raised by Roy and Ruth Mussell. Shortly after graduating high school, Rita traveled to the Pacific Northwest, where she met and fell in love with her husband Jim, pursued a career in Accounting & cultivated her family tree.
Rita is survived by her parents; Jim, her devoted husband of 37 years, 4 children & 5 grandchildren.

Karen Lois (Mussell) Oswalt, 69, of Red Wing, died October 19, 2015 at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester.
Karen was born in Winona the daughter of Ralph and Fern (Markwardt) Mussell. She was a graduate of Plainview High School. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, watching TV, and traveling.
Karen was preceded in death by her son Mark and her parents Ralph and Fern Mussell.
The family will greet visitors 4-8 pm, Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home, 57 3rd Street SW, Plainview, MN. No formal service will be held.
