OBITUARY-
AUSTIN -- The funeral for Jessie May Sargent will be at noon Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin with the Rev. Becky Jo Thilges officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.
Mrs. Sargent, 93, of Castle Ridge Nursing Center in Eden Prairie, Minn., formerly of Austin, died Sunday (Jan. 26, 1997) at the nursing center.
Jessie May Wheatley was born Dec. 14, 1903, in Corning, Iowa, and graduated from high school there. In September 1929 she married Clayton C. Sargent. She was a homemaker and she and her husband owned and operated Sarg's Roller Rinks in Austin, Rochester, Lyle, Dexter, Spring Valley and St. Charles, Minn., and in several southern Iowa cities. She was a member of a number of clubs in Alamo, Texas.
Survivors include a son, Robert E. of Rochester; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Wheatley of Corning, Iowa, and Charles Wheatley of Rockwell City, Iowa; and two sisters, Cecelia "Toots" (Mrs. Albert) Boswell and Opal (Mrs. Richard) Talty, both of Corning. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and six sisters.
There will be no visitation.
