Wilma Stabnick, 96, of Charlevoix, died Aug. 11, 2005, at Bortz Health Care of Petoskey. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Charlevoix with Father Jerry Hunko officiating. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Wilma was born April 6, 1909, in Newark, N.J., the daughter of John and Pauline (Argalas) Uhrick. She moved to Detroit as a young girl, where she worked as a telephone operator becoming chief operator for Michigan Bell Telephone. She retired after 40 years of service at Ameritech. Wilma had resided in Charlevoix the past 34 years, where she was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Charlevoix Garden Club, Charlevoix Historical Society and the Charlevoix Area Hospital Guild. She was a great cook and enjoyed entertaining at home. During her last four years at Bortz Health Care, she administered the "We Care Club."
Wilma married Anthony R. Stabnick on Feb. 10, 1934, in Detroit, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 1979.
She is survived by her son, Gerald and Sandra (Zellman) Stabnick, of Huntington Woods; grandchildren, Matthew and Dianne (Seymore) Stabnick, and Steven Stabnick; great-grandchildren, Connor, Anna and Cameryn Stabnick; sister-in-law, Florence Uhrick.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlevoix Garden Club or to the charity of choice.
Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix is in charge of arrangements.
