Ray "E" Loveless, 80, cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather died peacefully at home on Saturday Oct. 19, 2002. He served as a model of unselfish, charitable and compassionate living to all who knew him. He endured trials with a smile and leaves a legacy of love. Every member of his family knew he loved them and they look forward to the day when they will see him again.
Born July 10, 1922 to Elwood "Ned" and Grace Barnett Loveless in Payson, UT, he graduated from Payson High School and the National Electric School in Los Angeles. During World War II, he served in the Pacific in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Warner whom he married in the Salt Lake Temple on Oct. 12, 1943; children: Kathleen Cryder [Russell] of Riverside, CA; Richard [Sharon]; Scott [Kathy]; and Pat Lindquist, all of Salt Lake City; 20 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters, Connie Robison of Lewiston, ID; Marian Douglas of Spanish Fork, UT, and is preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Fraley.
He retired from Bonneville International where, in addition to other duties, he served for 27 years as the sound engineer for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He traveled throughout the world setting up sound and language translation services for Area Conferences with leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As an active member of the LDS Church, he three times served in the Bishopric of the 21st North Ward of the Emigration Stake, High Priest Group Leader, Stake and Ward Young Men's Presidency and he served in the Temple Mission Film Department. He and Evelyn also served in the Inner City Mission in Salt Lake City. He built a family cabin that became the home of many cherished memories. He loved fishing, golf, and bowling. He volunteered at the Cardiac Unit of the LDS Hospital.
The family would like to express special gratitude to the Heart Transplant Clinic of the LDS Hospital and the IHC Hospice for the kind and loving care they gave Ray.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2002 at the 21st North Ward chapel at 2nd Ave. and "K" Street, Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23 at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City and at 9:30 a.m. at the 21st North Ward prior to the service. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S, Salt Lake City.
