H. Seth Cornish, 84, of New Hartford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2007, at the Presbyterian Home surrounded by his family.
He was born on May 29, 1922 in Clinton, the son of the late Harry and Marvel Waldron Cornish, and was raised by his paternal grandparents, Frank and Edna Cornish. He was predeceased by his sister, Mildred. Seth graduated from Clinton High School and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942. He was an Aviation Ordnanceman serving in the South Atlantic and South Pacific, and was honorably discharged in 1945.
He married Josie Rathbun on January 29, 1944, with whom he had eight daughters. She passed away on August 28, 1976. Seth married Marjorie S. Boylan on August 18, 1978 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in New Hartford.
After returning from the war, Seth owned and operated the Leehurst Farm Dairy and later built the Cornish Grocery and Dairy Store in New Hartford. Seth was elected Highway Superintendent for the Town of New Hartford in 1976, later becoming the Commissioner of Public Works for the City of Utica. He held that position until 1986. In the latter part of his career, Seth worked part-time as an Investigator for the Oneida County Department of Social Services until his retirement. Seth's life included many years of public service. He served as an Oneida County Legislator for eight years, where he was the Majority Leader from 1972-1976. Seth also served as Deputy Supervisor and Town Councilman for the Town of New Hartford and as Trustee for the Village Board of New Hartford. Seth was most proud of his service as President of the New Hartford Playground Commission which was responsible for siting and developing the existing New Hartford Town Park. Seth was a member of the New Hartford Fire Department for many years and a Charter member of the New Hartford Lions Club. He was a Communicant of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in New Hartford.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie B. Cornish of New Hartford; and his children from his marriage to Josie Cornish, Marcia Cornish-Colp of New Hartford, Rebecca Briggs of Binghamton, Joanne Barbeau of New Hartford, Pamela Cornish of New Hartford, Lisa Sudakow and her husband, Don of New Hartford, and Lynne Mignemi and her husband, Thomas of Avon. Seth was predeceased by daughters, Christine Carr and Deborah Panzone. He is survived by his son-in-law, Thomas Panzone. Seth is also survived by Marjorie's children, Michael Boylan and his wife, Amy of Richmond, Kristin (Boylan) Sterling and her partner, Lynne Azzaro of Sanborn, and Kelly (Boylan) Hansen and her husband, Mark of Delmar. Seth's extended family also includes many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family extends its heartfelt appreciation to the nurses, aides and staff of the Willow Wing of the Presbyterian Home for their compassionate care of Seth and for all they did to assist the family. The funeral will be on Thursday at 11:00 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 25 Oxford Road, New Hartford, with interment in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Kirkland. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford. Thomas C. (Geno) Panzone, 65, of New Hartford, passed away April 2, 2008, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare surrounded by his beloved family and friends.
He was born March 14, 1943, in New Hartford, son of the late Emedio and Henrietta Strife Panzone. He married his best friend and love of his life, Deborah Cornish, on October 16, 1971, in New Hartford. Deborah died April 28, 2006; they are now together forever.
Tom was a heavy equipment operator for the Town of New Hartford for over 40 years. He truly loved his job and the people he worked with and considered himself blessed every day he went to work. He was a member of the New Hartford Fire Department for 35 years. He enjoyed cooking with Jim Spinella. Tom was an avid hockey fan and enjoyed attending hockey games, most recently those of the Utica College Hockey Team. He was also an avid Drag Racing Fan. He was a loving father and always active in the lives of his children.
He is survived by his children, Thomas Seth Panzone and his wife, Paula, of Whitesboro, Josie Panzone and her friend, Kara Bennett, of New Hartford, Jonathan M. Panzone, of New Hartford, Deborah L.L. Panzone, of Utica, Susan M. Panzone, of New Hartford, and Anthony W. Panzone, of New Hartford. He is also survived by the following relatives whom he helped raise and thought of as his own children, Lisa Sudakow, Christopher Cornish, Robert and Jennifer Cornish, and Sam Famolaro; his grandchildren, Krystan, Breeann, Victoria and expected grandchild Thomas Seth Panzone, Jr., Joshua Famolaro, Joseph Talerico, Izahia Howard, Julionna Howard and Christian; his brother, Douglas Panzone and his wife, Lorraine, of Mississippi, Carol Panzone, of Utica, and Robert Panzone and wife, Maggie, of Pratts Hollow; his mother-in-law, Marge Cornish, of New Hartford; his special sisters-in-law, Marcia, Becky, Joanne, Pam, Lisa and Lynn; and many nieces, nephews and close friends. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Christine (Cece) Carr.
The family wishes to thank the New Hartford Fire Department and the Town of New Hartford for all of their support. The funeral will be on Saturday at 10:30 at the New Hartford United Methodist Church, 105 Genesee St., New Hartford. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park. Joanne C. Barbeau, 60, of New Hartford passed away April 27, 2017 at the Siegenthaler Center. She was born September 14, 1956 daughter of the late H. Seth and Josie Rathbun Cornish. She graduated from New Hartford High School and attended MVCC. Joanne had been employed with Martin Marietta and owned her own cleaning business for 19 years.
She love life, her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Her grandson Aidan was her sidekick and she enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter Avery, also. She is survived by her daughter Michelle (Jamie) Cooney and her children, grandson Aidan and granddaughter Avery of Sauquoit; Joanne's son Sheridan (Kendra) Aubut of New Hartford; her sisters, Lynne (Tom) Mignemi of Avon, New York, Pamela Cornish, Marcia Cornish Colp and Lisa (Don) Sudakow all of New Hartford and Becky of Binghamton and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was pre-deceased by her sisters, Christine (C.C.) and Deborah Panzone.
