Mr. Anderson was graduated from Springfield High School in 1878 and in 1880 began teaching at the old Plunkett school. Two years later he went to the Franklin school, where he stayed for three years. He was then elected principal of the old Second ward school, known as the Trapp school, a position he held for the following twenty-one years. Leaving the board he became principal of Dubois school for ten years and principal of Douglas school for two years. His next post was at Central High school in charge of the study hall and later worked for bot Central and Feitshans High schools as attendance officer. In the last position he solved the problems of many children whose attendance at school was irregular. Where poverty was the cause, he was instrumental in finding sufficient clothes and food for the children so they could resume their studies. He always emphasized the importance of sympathy and understanding in dealing with irregular pupils.
Mr. Anderson was retired in the spring of 1938 in conformance with school board regulations. As a member of the board of education, Mr. Anderson worked unceasingly to secure better working conditions and higher salaries for teachers and janitors and to improve the condition of school buildings. He took an active part in plans to erect the present Springfield High school building, it being his suggestion to build the structure on it's present site.
