Howard B. Powell, age 91, of West Branch, MI, formerly of Mio, MI, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at The Brook Retirement Community in West Branch.
Howard Powell was born on October 2, 1918 in Lapeer, MI to Harvey H. Powell and Dora A. (Skinner) Powell, and was raised there. He served his country in the US Army in WWII. He worked as a Machine Repairman for Pontiac Motors, retiring in 1975. After his retirement, he moved to Mio in 1980. Howard was a member of Mio Moose Lodge #1035; and also a lifetime member of the Lapeer Eagles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing euchre, and bowling.
Surviving were his sons: Bill (Carol) Powell of Rose City, MI; Ted (Diane) Powell of Waterford, MI and Ed (Pat) Powell of Port Republic, NJ; 8 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his second wife Beulah, his parents, brothers and sisters: Ruby (Powell) Conrad; Herman Powell; Sarah Powell; Hazen Powell; Marjorie (Powell) Judd; Lola (Powell) Arbaugh; Harley Powell; Harvey Powell; Marie (Powell) Chamberlien and 3 infant siblings.
GEMENDER (PLUMB),
PHYLLIS JEAN- 84, passed away on Wednesdsay January 6, 2010 at her residence in Mission, TX. She was born to Garfield and Eugenia Lewis in Lansing, MI on December 30, 1925. She dearly loved her familiey and friends. She had been in the Rio Grande Valley for 27 years as a Winter Texan. She is preceded in death by Jack Gemender; Kenneth Plumb; and grandson, Aaron Akins. She is survived by her daughter, Lynda (Ron) Akins; grandchildren, Amber (John) Bondeson, Jodi Akins, Jeffery Akins and Brooke Smith; four great grandchildren; stepchildren, John Jude (Marie) Gemender, Kathryn (Jack) Rooney, Capt. Mark Benedict (Roe) Gemender, and Regina Maria (Doug) Wachtel. A memorial service will be held at a later day in Somerset Center, MI.
