  • He immigrated before 1652.
  • He was in Roxbury on 23 Feb 1652 when he (and others) were granted 4 acres each of land, provided they build on it. He was a bachelor and did not fulfil the requirement, so he forfeited the land.
  • He married Grace Bett on 20 November 1655 in Boston, Massachusetts.1
  • After marriage he got land on the SE border of Jamaica Plain and was given money to watch over the common land.
  • In Roxbury he was constable 1664, selectman 1674-1686, deputy to the General Court 1678-1686.
  • In 1666 he purchased land in western part of Roxbury on the road to Dedham and lived there.

(The tree made 14 cords of wood).
  • Griffith must have sailed for England after 1649 with his wife and several children. Many court records indicate 'his lack of business foresight, his ill-luck, perhaps; his monetary difficulties; his imprisonment; his quarrel with his eldest son about his estate.
  • On 30 May 1654 he bought a house and land in the parish of St. Maries in the County of Pimbroke England. He seemed to have been singularly unfortunate in his business affairs, probably owning only a little property in Great Britain when he died.
  • Griffith Bowen died in 1676 in London, England, at age ~74.1
  • No record was found of administration of his British estate. His New England estate, all real estate, was valued at £535.
